New Track: Meghan Trainor – ‘Over And Done’

Oh, girl – you may be barking up the wrong tree. A new Meghan Trainor song, ‘Over and Done’, has surfaced online and it shows the pop singer moving into a more urban-pop/hip-hop inspired sound. After a year filled with cultural appropriation debate, is this the right time for Meghan to be experimenting with this sound?

Personally, we don’t mind this song for Meghan. It’s refreshing, fun, and sounds like a natural evolution from her signature 50’s doo-wop vibe. On the other hand, we can already hear the backlash from Meghan dipping her hands into this style with her rappy, vocal performance on top of that hard, hitting trap infused beat.

There’s no doubt about it that this is a just demo. So odds are, this was supposed to stay on the cutting room floor. At the end of the day, who are we to say what’s right and wrong for Meghan Trainor? She should be able to do whatever she wants when it comes to her music. Just one bit of advice: proceed with caution girl if you don’t want to become the next poster child for appropriating a culture that isn’t yours.
