New Single: Meghan Trainor – ‘No’
Fresh off of her GRAMMY win for Best New Artist, Meghan Trainor is ready to kick off her sophomore era. Her record, ‘Thank You’, is due out in May and we’re getting a first taste of the “new sound” Meghan has created for herself with her new single, ‘No’.
Lots to discuss, so let’s dive right into it.
Did Meghan introduce a new sound on ‘No’? For her, yes. In general, ‘No’. We’re digging the guitar licks to rough up her sound a little bit, and the fact that she’s embracing a more urban pop/R&B sound.
There was a certain amount of hype leading up to the single’s release. Did it live up to the hype? Hard to say at this point. The word “banger” was thrown around a few days before its release and we can see how radio would eat this up. We’re not saying that we’re underwhelmed entirely by ‘No’, but a few things – whether that be vocal tricks or something to do with the production – would kick this up from a 7/10 to a possible 8.5 or 9/10.
With that being said, there are a few things that we really do like about ‘No’! Like we said, we’re on board with the new direction she’s heading it and it seems like a natural evolution from ‘Title’. And can we talk about the song’s hook? It’s safe to say that the ‘nah-to-the-ah, to the no-no-no’ bit is the best part of the song.
Are you digging ‘No’?
