Carly Rae Jepsen To Channel ABBA And Go Disco On Her New Album
About a month ago, Carly Rae Jepsen revealed that she’s begun writing the follow up to ‘E•MO•TION’ in the midst of her Gimme Love Tour. All that open road, new cities each night, and millions of fan encounters can really get the creative juices flowing, you know?
Carly also shared that after her Canadian tour with Hedley she would venture to Sweden to begin work on the record. She hasn’t landed in the holy land of pop yet; however she’s given an indication of the sound we can expect from her new album when speaking to the Vancouver Sun during a recent tour date:
I can’t explain what we’re doing right now, but we’re very much into disco-y things, whatever this next album may or may not turn out to be. But I’m very much referencing ABBA a lot, and the Bee Gees, all of that stuff. It’s fun to dig into oldies and see what you can celebrate about it, like a good movie or good song — to take your favourite pieces of something and add some new stuff to create something different.
She’s conquered the 80s, so it only makes sense for her to dive into another other era. Dabbling into a disco sound doesn’t sound like something that would be too much of a stretch for CRJ – especially when you take that ABBA name drop into account.
