Drake Teases A Brand New Mixtape During The Summer Sixteen Tour’s Kansas City Stop
Since Drake dropped ‘VIEWS’ in late April, he’s earned 11 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 and it doesn’t seem like that’ll end anytime soon. Don’t forget about ‘One Dance’ about to go on 10 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 and the countless other top 40 hits he has right now.
Looking for a break from the Canadian rapper’s chart topping dominance? Well, you won’t be finding it anytime soon. During last night’s Summer Sixteen Tour stop in Kansas City, Drake let slip during a rather inspiring speech that he’s working on a new mixtape to follow up ‘VIEWS’.
It’s a time to protect yourself and everyone else around you. Spread love, spread good energy because you know what? What I saw tonight was a beautiful building of beautiful people of all races and all places. And I want you to protect yourselves and each other cause when I go work on this new mixtape and I come back to Kansas City and I drop that shit I want to see everybody in this motherfucker, boy.
This doesn’t come as a surprise. ‘If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late’ was one of the biggest selling albums of 2015…and it was just a mixtape. It spawned a dozen memes and began to position Drake as one of the most powerful rappers of this generation.
Let’s not forget that as soon as ‘VIEWS’ was released, Drake promised a steady stream of new music all summer. From the sound of it, it looks like that promise is going to continue until the end of the year. He’s constantly working on music – solo or with other rappers. Why let up on his grind if he’s the most in-demand rapper around right now?
Do you think the world needs more Drake music or are is he overexposed and due for a break?
