RCA Records Services ‘Make Me (VMA Eazy)’ Remix To Radio
We’ve never seen a label stand behind a single this much, let alone RCA Records.
Last night, Britney Spears took the stage at the VMAs for the first time in nearly a decade to perform ‘Make Me…’ alongside G-Eazy, as well as his breakout hit ‘Me, Myself, & I’. Seconds after the performance wrapped, fans went into overdrive trying to figure out when and how they could get the version with Britney’s vocals on the hook.
Luckily, Britney’s team was one step ahead of everyone. It turns out those pre-recorded vocals aren’t going to waste. RCA Records has made yet another push for ‘Make Me…’ at radio as it has made the ‘VMA Eazy’ remix of Britney’s new single available for airplay. This comes off the heels of the president of RCA Records sending a public memo to all radio programmers urging them to give ‘Make Me…’ a chance.
It’s an interesting move. ‘Make Me…’ has stalled at radio and has barely been able to climb higher than the #20 slot. However, there seems to be a lot of life left in the song. It’s currently at the #2 position on iTunes and has been in the top 10 since last week. It’s obvious that a new audience is discovering the song. There’s no question that the increase on iTunes, the album release, and the two versions on radio will have an big impact on the Billboard Hot 100 next week.
Still – ‘Me, Myself, & I’ is old and tired. We love Britney’s flavor on the track and how crisp her vocals are – but we fail to see how this could really prompt radio programmers to reach for this version when the original mix is far superior and barely getting acknowledged.
Take a listen to the ‘Make Me (VMA Eazy) Remix’ below and sound off on your thoughts on the latest push surrounding ‘Make Me…’.
