Charli XCX Launches A New Era With ‘After The Afterparty’
Recently, Charli XCX shared that her long-awaited third album would drop next spring. Is May too far for you to hear what Charli has been working on? Today, she grants your wish with her brand new single ‘After The Afterparty’ ft. Lil’ Yachty.
On her ‘Vroom Vroom’ EP, Charli went very left and channeled more of an abrasive, electronic sound complements of SOPHIE. The electronic influences are still present on ‘After The Afterparty’, but instead of an avant-garde arrangement Charli finds herself on more of a chill, downtempo sound that focuses more on her knack of irreverent, bubblegum pop lyrics than a new sound.
After the afterparty/We gonna keep it going/We’re gonna rip it up/The neighbors mind complain/I think it’s almost 4am/But baby I’m still feeling just fine/Ice up all up in a plastic cup/And Imma keep on sippin’ all night/I might have kissed a thousand lips/But maybe that’s just all in my mind/Some people never understand the way we live/But we’re living life
There’s no question about it, Charli knows how to curate the best in pop – for her, for other artists – and that she’s a force to be reckoned with. ‘Afterparty’ is her most commercial work to date and it might just be the one that establishes her as a pop star, and not a one-hit wonder.
